Per-country minimum ages
Legal drinking, vaping and purchase ages differ by country — 18 in France, 21 in the United States, 20 in Japan. With Pro you can set a minimum age per country instead of one global number.
How to configure it
Section titled “How to configure it”- On the app’s Home page, click Set ages per country.
- In the Minimum age per country dialog, search for a country and type its age. Use Set all countries to + Update all to bulk-fill a value, then adjust the exceptions.
- Click Done, then Save.
The Home page summarizes your setup (“N countries with a specific age”).
How a visitor’s country is determined
Section titled “How a visitor’s country is determined”The gate reads the country from your storefront’s Shopify Markets localization context — the same mechanism that selects a visitor’s currency and pricing. No IP geolocation service is called, and no third-party request is made from your storefront.
- If the visitor’s country has an entry in your table, that age applies.
- Any country not in the table falls back to the default Minimum age.
Interaction with verification methods
Section titled “Interaction with verification methods”- Date of birth — the entered date is checked against the country’s minimum age. A 19-year-old passes in France (18) and is declined in the United States (21) with the exact same birth date.
- Yes / No confirmation — the wording of your question doesn’t change per country by itself. If you use per-country ages with Yes/No mode, consider a neutral phrasing such as “I am of legal age in my country”, editable in the theme editor. With automatic translation enabled, the built-in texts already use neutral wording.
Good to know
Section titled “Good to know”- Country codes follow ISO 3166-1 (two letters); each country appears at most once in the table.
- Accepted ages are 1–129, same as the default minimum age.
- If Pro ends, the per-country table stops applying and every visitor gets the default minimum age again (Plans).
